Sr. Software Engineer (Hadoop, Lucene, Java) at Aol. in Dulles, VA

We’re looking for a standout, passionate, resourceful engineer to join our team. You will work on a small, high-performance Agile team with other developers, designers, product managers, QA and business representatives to collaboratively create the software that runs our Search business. You will also use the latest web platforms, standards, and technologies and work collaboratively in a dynamic environment.

Technical skills & Qualifications:

* Bachelors or Masters degree in development or equivalent work experience * 5+ years industry experience developing web applications and servers * Expertise in Java/J2EE architectures and frameworks * Prior experience working on Agile/Scrum environment * Excellent troubleshooting/analytical skills and a creative attitude when tackling novel and sometimes mysterious problems * Proven expertise with designing and implementing highly scalable systems leveraging these technologies: Linux, MySQL, Apache Tomcat, Lucene/SOLR * Prior experience with Hadoop or other Map/Reduce technologies, a plus * Solid database design skills, ability to design efficient SQL, data structures * Experience with web services design (such as Soap and REST) both as a client and a server * Experience developing in a standards based environment using version control software such as CVS and IDE’s such as Eclipse or NetBeans * Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences * Knowledge of front-end web technologies, particularly HTML, JavaScript, CSS * Ability to work independently with limited supervision and learn quickly in a dynamic environment * Prior experience developing consumer facing web sites and experience with web publishing platforms is highly desired * Knowledge of web advertising models and monetization concepts a plus
