Senior Scalability Engineer
Roblox is a virtual world and building game for kids. Users make games in our dynamic environment and invite other kids to play in the world that they have created. ROBLOX is looking for a scalability engineer to help design and build our next generation social gaming web platform. In this role, you will:
• Select a highly scalable database sharding/clustering strategy – and then implement it
• Develop a site-wide integrated search capacity operating on terabytes of data
• Build a software replication layer to support search and business intelligence operations
• Create software that is failure tolerant and supports incremental production rollout
• Define metrics for predicting scalability pain points and documenting solutions
• Evaluate proprietary, open source, and home grown solutions
• Work through the entire hardware/software stack
ROBLOX is a 3D game, a social network, and a virtual economy with user-generated content – the feature set and technology stack are humungous. If you like being an engineer, ROBLOX is for you. This like working on your own projects from conception to finish.
Requirements:
• BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Computer Science or similar
• 5-10 years experience building production high-load web environments
• 3-5 years in a project or technical leadership role
• Experience with .NET, LAMP, Ruby, or other web application stack
• Experienced with SQL, MySQL, Oracle or similar
• Experienced with SimpleDB, BigTable, or similar
Interesting/Plusses
• Hands-on experience at a marquee social networking site
• Passionate about verifying decisions and actions with metrics
• Reads High Scalability website and following the NoSQL movement
• Experienced in mixed database strategies that include traditional and cloud storage
